Denver Airport to Vail Private Car Service
Denver International Airport to Vail is about 120 miles and takes two to two and a half hours in good conditions. It is the single most travelled route in Colorado mountain transportation, and it is also the one most often underestimated. Two mountain passes, a tunnel at over 11,000 feet, and an interstate that can go from clear to closed in an hour make this a drive worth handing to someone who does it every week.

What the drive actually looks like
You leave the terminal on Peña Boulevard, pick up I-70 west through Denver, and start climbing almost immediately. The route runs past Idaho Springs and Georgetown, through the Eisenhower Johnson Memorial Tunnel, which at just over 11,000 feet is the highest vehicular tunnel in the United States, then down into the Dillon and Frisco basin, past Copper Mountain, and over Vail Pass at more than 10,600 feet before dropping into East Vail.
You gain roughly 3,000 feet of elevation from the airport to town. Vail sits at about 8,150 feet. Most guests notice it on the first evening.
Timing, and the two windows to avoid
Two and a half hours is the honest number for a clear weekday. There are two realistic exceptions.
Westbound I-70 on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning in ski season is the heaviest traffic in the state. Add an hour, sometimes more.
Winter storms close the corridor. When the tunnel or Vail Pass shuts, nobody moves, including us. What we can do is watch the forecast against your flight and talk to you early rather than leaving you guessing at baggage claim.
Winter driving and the Colorado Traction Law
From roughly September through May, CDOT can put the Passenger Vehicle Traction Law into effect on this stretch of I-70 whenever conditions call for it. It requires all wheel drive or four wheel drive with at least 3/16 inch of tread, or chains. Non compliance carries a 100 dollar fine, and 500 dollars if your vehicle contributes to closing the road.
Our vehicles are all wheel drive and maintained to meet it. This is the main reason guests who would otherwise rent a car do not, and it is worth knowing before you book a two wheel drive rental in December.

We track your flight, so a delay on your end is not a problem on ours. Your driver will be in contact once you land and will meet you at the passenger pickup area outside baggage claim. International arrivals and long customs queues are normal and already accounted for.

Door to door to your actual address, not a central drop point. That includes Vail Village, Lionshead, Cascade Village, Golden Peak, East Vail and West Vail, along with private homes anywhere in the valley. If you are staying somewhere the shuttle network does not serve well, this is the difference.

Is it better to fly into Denver or Eagle for Vail?
Eagle County Regional is thirty five minutes from Vail against two and a half hours from Denver, so Eagle is easier when the schedule and fare work. Denver has far more flights and is usually cheaper. Plenty of guests fly into Denver and let us handle the drive.
Can you carry ski and snowboard gear?
Yes. Our vehicles are set up for it, including bikes in summer.
Can we stop on the way?
Yes. Every airport transfer includes a free half hour stop, which most guests use for groceries in Silverthorne or Frisco before heading up.
What happens if my flight is delayed or I-70 closes?
We track your flight and adjust. If the corridor closes we will tell you honestly what we are seeing rather than putting you in a vehicle that is going to sit on the interstate.
