Lazy J Ranch Wedding Transportation
Nobody walks to Lazy J Ranch. It is a 3,200 acre working ranch at 1 Sporting Clay Road in Wolcott, below Bellyache Ridge, with three miles of private Eagle River frontage, trout ponds and sporting clays. No lodging is listed on the property, so every guest arrives in a vehicle from Vail, Beaver Creek or Edwards. The ranch is newly reopened under the family's fourth generation, weddings use timber pavilions and tent meadows, and The Knot lists capacity at 300 or more.
Sporting Clay Road, and the gravel after it
Sporting Clay Road leaves US 6 near Wolcott. Past that point you are on ranch roads, and we treat them as gravel until someone tells us otherwise. Site access runs through the ranch coordinator, so before a 14 passenger van goes on the quote we ask her and your planner three things: the road surface that week, where the drop is relative to the pavilion, and whether a long vehicle can turn around without backing up in the dark. That last answer decides whether vans loop continuously or go out one direction at a time.
Everyone starts 20 to 30 minutes away
Beaver Creek is about 20 minutes, Avon about 17, Vail Village about 30 and Eagle County Airport about 18 on a dry summer day. A round trip from Vail is an hour, which rules out a casual loop for arrivals. Timed departures from the hotel, published to guests in advance, are the way to do it. For 200 guests out of one Beaver Creek block that is five of our Sprinters making two runs each. At 300, or with guests split between Vail and Beaver Creek, figure seven or eight vans.
At night every van is parked on the ranch before the last song, the first load goes as soon as it fills, and the rest wait for the final departure so the ranch road clears once. Everything we send is a Mercedes Sprinter or an SUV with all wheel drive, which is what a working ranch road wants after rain or after dark.
When you request an event quote, include the guest count, the hotels and whatever the ranch has told you about the road, and we will turn that into a schedule. Our wedding transportation page covers how the shuttles run, and guests landing at Eagle County ride up on the Eagle County Airport to Vail lane.
