Sonnenalp Hotel Wedding Transportation
More couples review the Sonnenalp than any other wedding venue in Eagle County, which tells you how many weekends a year this hotel is loading guests at 20 Vail Road. Our part of that is small and specific: the people who cannot walk to the front door, and the airport.
Vail Road and the porte cochere just below the roundabout
Vail Village is a pedestrian village, and the Sonnenalp's address only works because Vail Road is one of the few streets still open to vehicles. The hotel's porte cochere and valet sit on Vail Road just south of the main roundabout. Our drivers come off the roundabout, turn in, unload and pull away; there is no room for a vehicle to sit, and no room at all for a coach. A 14 passenger Mercedes Sprinter fits the lane comfortably, and that, plus SUVs for the wedding party and parents, all of it all wheel drive, is what we bring to this hotel. Since 2022 we have run guests to and from the Sonnenalp a few dozen times, almost all airport transfers, so the turn is not new to us.
Who walks and who rides
Guests staying at the Sonnenalp, the Four Seasons or The Sebastian are already on Vail Road and will not need us on the wedding day. The Vail Interfaith Chapel is at 19 Vail Road, directly across the street, so a chapel ceremony followed by a Sonnenalp reception is a stroll of a minute or two.
Everyone else is a ride, roughly in the order it comes up:
- Lionshead and Cascade Village, a short run west
- Avon, about 15 minutes
- Beaver Creek Village, a 20 minute run
- Eagle County Airport, about 40 minutes, door to door to the porte cochere
Grand Bavaria, the Stuberl and The Garden
The hotel takes weddings up to about 220. Large receptions use the Grand Bavaria ballroom, and the biggest ones require a full buyout of Ludwig's. Private dinners under 40 go in the Stuberl, and outdoor ceremonies and cocktails happen in The Garden by the pool. The hotel books year round with a ten guest minimum, so the shuttle plan ranges from a single SUV for a Stuberl dinner to a 200 person Grand Bavaria reception with 60 or 70 guests sleeping in Avon.
For that larger case, two Sprinters working the out of town hotels on timed runs beginning about 90 minutes before the ceremony is enough, with one van held near the roundabout for latecomers. On the way home we switch to a running loop from the porte cochere for the final hour so there is no crowd on Vail Road when the music stops.
One footnote: the Sonnenalp also operates Harvest at the Sonnenalp Club in Edwards, a separate venue with its own page and a real drive from the village.
Give us the room blocks and the ceremony time and we will draw up the runs. Then request an event quote and read the longer wedding transportation page, or look at the Eagle County Airport to Vail lane for guests flying into Eagle.
